Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of China (SFFC) announced on October 8th that it has appointed Colin Bell as the head coach of the Chinese U20 women's soccer team. This decision comes as part of the preparations for the 2026 U20 Women's Asian Cup and U20 Women's World Cup.
Colin Bell, a former professional footballer in England and Germany, has an extensive coaching career. He has previously coached German club Eintracht Frankfurt Women, the Irish national women's football team, and the South Korean national women's football team.
The Chinese Football Association has conducted two open recruitments for the U20 women's soccer head coach position. The goal is to achieve qualification for the 2026 U20 Women's Asian Cup and U20 Women's World Cup. The work contracts will be signed based on the objectives of each tournament.
Colin Bell, 63 years old, was the first foreign head coach in the history of the South Korean women's soccer team. During his tenure, he led the team in 49 matches, with a record of 24 wins, 10 draws, and 15 losses.
In the previous year's Olympic qualifying match, China's women's soccer team drew 1-1 with the South Korean team, resulting in both teams missing out on the Tokyo Olympics. In June of this year, the South Korean Football Association announced the early termination of Colin Bell's contract after coaching the South Korean women's team for 4 years and 8 months.
Following his departure from the South Korean team, Colin Bell briefly coached the Aberdeen Women's Football Club but resigned in August due to personal reasons.
